Hello all! So sorry for the delay in posting. We have made it, our giant cross-country move is complete. It's perfectly lovely here - of course hot. :)

We do have some news. At this time we have decided to close our three stores, at least for the time being. Among other things, we have no storage at this point, so we are going to take a break.

Patti Stanger, the fabulous Millionaire Matchmaker, is heading to an event tonight in Beverly Hills, so she says via Twitter today. I'm not sure how fancy the event is, but I started thinking, if I could dress Patti for a fun night out - maybe in Vegas - with a little red carpet action of course - what I would put her in? Perhaps this...photos below.

First, a plain base is necessary. A very fitted, clean white, button front blouse. Long sleeves or short, however, short might be more comfortable. Tucked into a pair of simple dark wash jeans, again, fitted, with a bit of a flare, but most definitely not bell bottoms. Add a simple black leather belt. Perhaps could have a chunky and unique (but not tooooo out there) buckle, if going with simple earrings and necklace. Most definitely boots. The higher the better. Fine black leather, narrow heel, not chunky.

The perfect piece on top would be a vintage leather blazer, in a maroon, like the one shown below. With Patti's dark hair and lovely eyes I think that would be a fantastic color on her. She needs a unique, one-of-a-kind piece that no one else is going to every be able to find. For a handbag, either a small, narrow, black leather clutch, or a big, chunky bag, like the Fendi we've shown below. Nothing in between - either one extreme or the other.

1) Show us your favorite Hawaiian or tropical print in your inventory!

Oh boy! At Purse Diva Vintage we've always specialized in Hawaiian vintage. We love everything, the dresses, shirts, jewelry, you name it. We've sold quite a few amazing pieces lately, but still in stock we have this incredible Waltah Clarke bold print shirt - it's incredible. Watercolor abstract mums is the best way to describe it.

5)Best vacation ever?
We took a 5 day cruise from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas a few years ago, returning to Florida the day before Hurricane Charley hit. We had no idea it was coming and no idea what to do. We ended up "stranded" in Florida for several days, and believe it or not, that's what made us decide to move there. We had the time to enjoy the town, walk around, investigate everything, much more of an opportunity to do so than we would have had. So see, sometimes, hurricanes can be good. :-)

It's Blog Tag time at the eVintage Society! I was tagged by Jen at Penelopepup's Vintage Blog! Animals…..we love ‘em, we love to wear ‘em! Prints, that is (fur is another and much more sensitive topic for another blog).

1) Show us your favorite piece of animal print apparel in your inventory!
Hmm, I can't decide, so I'll show you two of my favorites.

This is an incredibly sexy 1960s, very Ann Margret, Bali bikini and cover up. Vavavavoom!

And then this is a lovely linen tiger strip mod coat - could be worn as a coatdress as well.

2) What is your favorite animal print to wear & why?

I love all animal prints, but in small doses, most particularly on shoes! Leopard for certain.

3) Favorite to sell?

Any and all - shoes and handbags in particular (but of course!)

4) Favorite pet and best pet story?

My favorite pet would have to be my beautiful Red. He passed away a few years ago but was the most wonderful dog we've ever had. He was a grand champion miniature pinscher and came to live with us after he retired. Just a marvelous, loyal, sweet little man, and we miss him tremendously.

Best pet story...we have a ton of good pet stories! Off the top of my head - we used to have a cherry head conure named Barney. He was green with a bright red head. One day close to Christmas he disappeared. We could not figure out where in the world he might be. Searched the house top to bottom, no bird! Finally we happened to glance at the Christmas tree...and there he was, perched on the very top like a star, blending in with the red and green. :-)

5) Scared of animals? Which one scares you the most & why?

No, not really scared of animals, I don't think. Perhaps alligators or sharks - which makes a lot of sense, considering we're moving to Florida! LOL!

6) Favorite animal to visit at the zoo or to collect images of?

Dolphins and manatees, for sure!

Hello everyone! In case you happened by the Eclectic Flamingo yesterday, we wanted to let you know that our store was hacked - just the Flamingo, not the other two. They posted some fairly offensive photos and text. All have been fixed now but we wanted you to know that this was definitely the work of a hacker with entirely too much time on their hands (and not much imagination) - not us.

No customer information was ever compromised, so no worries for you. All they could do was mess with the look of our store.

eVintage blog tag time! I was tagged by Jen at Penelopepup's Vintage Blog - Sex and the City!!

1)We know Carrie favors vintage, but let’s dress them all! Like cyber paperdolls. To kick it off, show us a piece you think the quirky, eclectic and whimsical Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) would look great in from your inventory.

The Carrie character has definitely "grown up" a tad in the movie, fashion-wise, from what she used to wear on the show. Of course, it is 4 years later. Back in one of the seasons she was wearing a lot of skirts with a frill in the back (think crinolines as a skirt). I'd put the character from that time in this crinoline, with some fab Manolos, but of course, and a hip vintage t-shirt.

2)Samantha (Kim Cattrall) works the vampy edge of fashion…what do you have in your inventory that can bring out the temptress in a woman?

Oh, I have THE perfect Samantha dress. This is a stunning, drop dead, DEEP v-neck silky 80s number that is SO Samantha. *note - this item has sold

3)Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) tends to play it safe, tending toward clean lines and classic silhouettes with the occassional sexy edge. What do you have in your inventory for her?

Let's see, Miranda...while at first glance you might not think this is very "Miranda", but I think the character at this point would wear it out in the evening, more so than her character on the show years ago. This is a 1940s crepe beaded evening jacket with wonderful billowly sleeves.

4)Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is often seen in more feminine, flirty and girlie pieces. What vintage dress or ensemble do you have that would work for her character?

For Charlotte I think I'd put her in a full-skirted 50s dress, and top it with this darling 50s winter white rhinestone accented bolero...and of course you must top it off with a tegu lizard kelly bag!

5) Sex and the City Shoes, got em?

I have a lovely pair of 50s DeLiso Deb stilettos that are pretty darn cool!

and...an 80s Charles Jourdan black patents pair, yummy!

6)Love the show? Hate the show? Never seen it? Do tell. No spoilers if you’ve seen the movie!

Love it. LOVE IT. Miss it terribly! I did see the movie (in fact, bought tix days before it came out online lol), opening night.

Oh wow, what a hard decision! I have three favorites actually, I can't pick just one. A 1940s peachy pink satin rayon by Trébelwith teastain lace and chiffon, a 1950s orange crush colored Vanity Fair nylon slip with lace trim, and a chocolate brown 1960s Formfit Rogers.

2) Lace trim or chiffon trim? What's your favorite?
Hmm...I think the filminess of chiffon is my favorite.

3)Colors or neutrals, whats your preference?
I'm all for colors - hiding a bright or unusual color under a more sedate suit - fabulous way to sneak in your sparkling personality!

4)Favorite label in vintage lingerie? (Vintage Vanity Fair, Vassarette, Movie Star, Barbizon?.)
Oh wow that's a hard question! So many fantastic vintage labels out there...I will go with Vanity Fair.

5)Full slip or half?
Full.

6)Slips worn as dresses in public?..yea or nay?
Sure - if you have the body to carry it off, why not? That is, if it's not see-through!

5) Favorite Sinatra wife? Ava Gardner.

6) Been to Vegas? How many times? Best Vegas story?

Oh boy - Vegas is one of our favorite vacation spots. We've probably been there gosh, at least a dozen times. Best Vegas story...well, I have several, probably some not fit for print (lol!). But this one is good - we were there for my birthday, staying at the MGM. We headed to valet to take off to meet some friends. It was very busy and we were sitting there waiting for our car. I happen to look off to the side of me and catch sight of a bellboy standing there waiting for a car with a ton of luggage on his rack...and a little something else. I looked - I looked again - and again - and finally said to Jason um...is that what I THINK it is?? Indeed, it was. Tied to the side of the luggage rack was a crazy blow up doll. The bellboy looked totally blasé about the whole thing - I know he's seen it all!

1) The colors of CANDY! What’s your favorite candy colored vintage piece in your collection?
I think my favorite candy colored piece would have to be this Vested Gentress skirt. Sweet, cotton candy pink, and such a darling print! Bright and spring-y.

2)What’s the sweetest accessory you’re offering right now, or if you don’t have one for sale, tell us about one of your own!
This orange Jackie O pillbox hat. The color reminds me of those orange sugar-coated jelly candy slices.

3) Sweet tooth? What’s your favorite candy?
Hmm...I think I'd have to say gummy bears! :-)

4)Ice cream?
I'm not really big on ice cream either (I know I know, I'm odd), but if it has cheesecake in it, I'm eating it!

5) “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, classic film or Johnny Depp re-make….and why?
I really prefer the original. I didn't feel they quite captured the book for some reason in the second (probably because the original was from my era, my childhood, so I identify with it more).

6)Is your personal style sweet or salty? Explain!
A little of both. My personal style has a sweet touch usually, but always with a salty (or sassy!) piece to set everything off.

eVintage blog tag time! I was tagged by Jen at Penelopepup's Vintage Blog to answer a few questions about...MAXED OUT! The Maxi dress. This Spring the designers are heavily promoting the return of the Maxi.

MAXI OR PATIO DRESS, AND WHY?
I'll use both as a term, but generally like to stick more to "maxi" for a long dress, and "patio" for a more traditional 50s circle skirt and puffy sleeved blouse.

FAVORITE MAXI DRESS IN YOUR INVENTORY?
Hmm...I think these two:

Both Hawaiian, both so glam, both perfect for pool parties!

AS A TREND, WILL IT BE A HIT OR A MISS?
It's a somewhat tough one to pull off, you definitely need to be a tall thin gal, but it's a great look if you can do it.

DO YOU WEAR MAXI DRESSES OR SKIRTS?
Yes I do, when I have the opportunity. For certain!

PROS AND CONS?
Pros, I'm glad to see the return of the maxi length - too many sellers for years have been cutting them short short short, down into minis, and I hate to see that. It's also a very glamourous look - you can be casual and comfortable, yet still have a bit of glam. Cons, sometimes, some maxi dresses are just...eeek! You have to be choosey and pick something that's timeless and classic - some of the 70s versions are just, well, hideous! :-)

Hmm...we actually don't have a lot in vintage stock at this time, more over in the Couture store. We do have a pair in vintage that are favs though, these navy patent 50s DeLiso Debs.

Over in Couture, for sure my favorite pair are these fantastic mind-blowing Chanels.

2) WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE STYLE OF VINTAGE SHOE TO SELL?

I love love love 40s peeptoes - they're so rare and so fantastic. Never in my size though it seems! :(

3) FAVORITE VINTAGE SHOE TO WEAR?

Well, if I could find a pair that fit, again, 40s peeptoes. If not, I think I'd go with some funky black 80s slouchy pirate boots.

4) FAVORITE PAIR YOU OWN?

I have a pair of ancient black, very detailed cowboy boots that I just love love love.

1) WHAT ITEM DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE FOR SALE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN WORN IN A MOVIE?

I could easily see this fabulour tiger-striped set in a 60s "beach blanket" type movie, don't you think? Or even more appropriate, Viva Las Vegas - totally Ann Margret!

2) WHICH MOVIE STAR DO YOU SEE WEARING THE ITEM & IN WHAT MOVIE?

I can completely picture Grace Kelly wearing this fabulous late 40s/early 50s red gown with matching bolero. It seems so applicable to her. I can't think of a specific movie she'd wear it in, it would be more of a red carpet moment for her I think.

3) WHAT MOVIE STAR QUALITIES DOES YOUR ITEM HAVE TO MAKE IT PERFECT FOR YOUR STARLET?

So VERY regal, classy, drop dead movie star glam!

Embellishments for Spring

Hello all! Hope you're well.

We've been noticing a LOT of embellisments, do-dads, whatever you want to call them, on clothing for Spring - and in particular shoes. Have you noticed? Talk about some spectacular footwear out there. Amazing pieces from Miu Miu, Louboutin, Dior, Fendi, Jimmy Choo - all the big names seem to be doing just amazing shoes this year. And the bags...don't even get me started. Not just embellishments, a lot of peep toes (think 40s) and lace-up high heel oxfords.

Now of course, these can be a big bite out of your budget - always look around out there for resale items, they can be found, and if you're careful, you'll find the real deal, not the copies (for instance, in Purse Diva Couture!). Another option is to go with actual vintage footwear. One of the hottest trends this year is 1940s peeptoes - take a look around, they're out there. Of course if you're a talented crafter, you could always take a plain pair of pumps or sandles and dress up those heels with some embellishments of your own! Go for it!

Here are some fab examples we found of the gorgeous shoes out there this Spring. And of course, had to include the spectacular $5000 Fendi at the bottom, yum! We have an amazing calf-hair Fendi available, check it out!

Lovely Liquid Satin

Hello! We just listed a gorgeous yellow liquid satin 1940s gown that was worn in a wedding by the matron of honor, complete with the matching gloves and bustle. In doing research on it we came across some perfectly lovely gowns as well and thought you'd like to see them.

The utterly fantabulous designer Fred Perlberg did some fantastic variations of the liquid satin (also known as slipper satin) evening gown, and we found a few at Alley Cats Vintage:

Alley Cats also has another gown, done in the Perlberg style;

which is quite reminiscent of ours, from Purse Diva Vintage;

These gowns are highly sought after and actually pretty hard to find, we understand. They are done in a lovely heavy satin that has such a wonderful feel. We think 1940s slipper satin is such a unique and interesting fabric, as well as neat pieces of fashion history, that we just wanted to share.

1) WHATS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE OF SPRING VINTAGE WEAR IN YOUR INVENTORY?

Hmm...there are several, but to pick one I think I'd say this darling yellow skirt.

2) WHY IS IT YOUR FAVORITE?

It's so bright and cheerful, perfect after a long dreary cold winter. Great length and such wonderful flower detail.

3) WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPRING FLOWER?

The crocus. It's the first flower we see here in Washington, usually poking up through the snow. Reminds me every year that Spring is just around the corner (thank goodness!)

4) FAVORITE MEMORY OF SPRING?

My kiddos, every year, insisting that it's warm enough to go without a coat...when it's still 35 out "but mom, I'm sweating to death!"

5) WHEN DOES SPRING ARRIVE WHERE YOU LIVE?

About mid-March. Seems a bit earlier this year (thank goodness!!)

6) MOST EXCITING SPRING FASHION TREND?

I've seen quite a few motorcycle jackets, which is fantastic. I love that look - guys or girls. Glad to see that metallics are still hanging in there as well.

eVintage Blog Tag - Oscar Fashion

eVintage blog tag time! I was tagged by Jen at Penelopepup's Vintage Blog to answer some question about this years Oscar fashions.

1. FAVORITE GOWNS OF THE NIGHT & WHY?

I actually had a sort of hard time with this question! There really weren't any that reached out and grabbed my attention this year. Hilary Swank's Versace was a lovely design and cut, but I think the decorative beaded flowers on the bust were too much - it would have been a show stopper without this. Renee Zellweger's gown was lovely old Hollywood, unfortunately the platinum color seemed to wash her out a bit. And although a lot of people didn't care for it, Cameron Diaz's pink Dior gown, I thought, was lovely on her - although maybe she should have rethought the pony tail!

2. WHAT ERA DO YOU THINK IT REPRESENTED BEST?
Old world Hollywood glam

3. LEAST FAVORITE GOWNS OF THE NIGHT & WHY?

Boy, there were several. First, I'd have to say Anne Hathaway's big red mistake. It's a bit much. Minus the hideous floral bust accent, it might be okay, but still perhaps a little too much Grecian drape.

Another would be George Clooney's date, Sarah Larson. He's his sexy dapper self as always, but that dress...talk about a gawd-awful pattern!

Daniel Day-Lewis' wife, Rebecca Miller. The dress...the shoes...equals one big mess.

And finally...Diablo Cody in her Betty Rubble dress...whaaaaaa???

4. WHAT ERA DO YOU THINK IT REPRESENTED BEST (or worst, as it were)?
Boy hmm...I suppose 70s/80s for Anne, definitely 80s Dynasty (all it needed was a giant bow or ruffles!) for Sarah, as well as the do-it-yourself Bedazzler 80s era for Rebecca, and Diablo...I suppose Flintstones, circa 1,000,000 B.C.

5. TILDA SWINTON, FASHION SCORE OR SCARE?
Well, definitely not a score! Heavens.

6. WHAT DID YOU EAT WHILE WATCHING THE SHOW?
Hmm, I can't remember if I was eating anything or not! Probably not. I actually did not watch the show, hubby and I were working on our house that's going up for sale shortly.

Hello all!

Today while deciding what to feature this week for our "Share Your Wares" promotion, I decided to focus on vintage kimonos. Then I started thinking about them, and thought gosh, I bet a lot of people really don't know how to wear them or what the heck to do with them.

Not only can you wear them as a simple robe, you can easily incorporate a kimono into your wardrobe. You can wear them with vintage certainly, but they also look just fantastic with a pair of 7 jeans and some hot high heeled boots for a unique evening look. Sometimes just adding one fantastic piece of vintage to your contemporary fashions really ups the ante - making a very unique statement that no one else will have.

So, I happen to know this guy, so I guess I'm a little biased, but I have to tell you, he does the coolest stuff. I ordered a bunch of items for Christmas and they were SO cool. The people who received them were just thrilled - and really amazed!

The great thing about this is it's pieces everybody will like - especially since you customize them directly to the person. Need something for your boss? This is a 1970s Etienne Aigner burgundy leather jacket, and we've paired it with modern 7 For All Mankind jeans. See how fabulous the two look together? Sometimes head-to-toe vintage can look a little corny - heck, unless, of course, you're at the VLV convention. But for everyday, it's a tough look for everyone to pull off. Just adding a simple vintage piece to your modern wardrobe really adds to your entire look. If not a vintage jacket, why not try adding something like this -

Today's Interview is with Jordan of Lone Star Gemstones!

Today our Main Street interview is with Jordan of Lone Star Gemstones.

Viviene: When did you start designing your own line of jewelry?

Jordan: I have been in love with jewelry almost since I was born. My mama had a pearl pendant that my father brought back from China. It was probably one of the first things I ever focused on as an infant, and my focus has not wavered since then. I started designing and setting my own jewelry line when I could not find the rare, or unusual, gemstones that fascinated me, available in retail environments. I love to wear these gems. By learning to design my own jewelry, and set the gemstones that I want in them, I am able to wear one-of-a-kind pieces. I could coordinate metals and stone colors to match clothing. I could find the perfect setting, in the perfect metal, to bring out the very best in the nature of a gemstone specimen.

Viviene: What are the gems and metals that you like to work with the most?

Jordan: Wow… Difficult to choose. I think probably the “phenomenon” gems are probably my favorites. These are the gemstones that change color in response to different light sources (such as alexandrite, or color-change sapphire), or simply looking at the gem from another direction (such as iolite, or andalusite). I also love to set topaz. There is such variety in colors, and shades, and nuances in the topaz. And topaz has some of the best clarity and brilliance of many of the colored stones. I work almost exclusively with .925 sterling silver, and 10, or 14, karat gold, particularly in my colored gem settings. Some of the components of the beaded necklaces are vermeil (sterling silver heavily electroplated in 22kt gold), or gold-filled to keep the piece more affordable, and because necklace components don’t have to stand up to as much abuse as, say, a ring.

Viviene: What was the motivation to offering gem lots for sale in your store?

Jordan: My first loose gems were actually purchased in a 20 carat lot. I offer gem lots in any (full carat) size, from one carat to ......well, the sky’s the limit, so that anyone, of any income level, can own beautiful, genuine gemstones. The gems in these lots are perfect for the budding gemologist to develop their skills, for the jewelry designer to add color and sparkle to their designs, for the jewelry enthusiast to have put into a setting of their choice for a one-of-a-kind heirloom jewelry piece. They are beautiful, fun, and much less expensive than purchasing each stone individually. It’s like looking at pirate treasure.

Viviene: What influences your own jewelry designs?

Jordan: With regard to my colored gemstone pieces, those are primarily influenced by the gemstone. The color, cut, clarity and carat size, as well as many other intrinsic factors, determine the type of setting and the metal used. The overwhelming concern is: “What will show this gemstone to its best advantage?” Influences for beaded designs come from everywhere: magazines, red carpet pieces, television, other designers. I see things that inspire me, then I run to the nearest paper and pencil to draw a rough sketch and make design notations. I keep them all in a binder and use them for later pieces. I have drawings on envelopes, business cards, the back of grocery lists . . . you name it.

Viviene: Do the loose gems or jewelry attract you the most?

Jordan: Oh no.. You will not get me to say which one of my “children” I love best. My first love was jewelry, largely BECAUSE of the gemstones. I love the loose gems because gemology satisfies the scientific side of my personality, and the sparkle and beauty satisfies the more passionate, esthetic side of me. However, I also love the beading and gem setting because they allow the right side of my brain (the creative, “artsy” side) to get some “Me Time”.

Viviene: What is your personal preference in jewelry? Art deco? Modern? Native American? If you have more than one feel free to go into detail with each one.

Jordan: I am not sure that I have a favorite style. I am amazed and awed by the beauty of Native American jewelry art, and I love the clean, organic lines of art deco, but I suppose most of the jewelry I personally wear would be considered modern, but not TOO modern. I think toe rings, and belly rings, and even some nose rings, are really very darling on those with the figure (and the youth) for it, but I have never pierced anything any more daring than my ears. They are pierced three times on each side, but that was only so I could wear more bling at one time..

Viviene: Where is your store located?

Jordan: After the betrayal of the store owners at eBay, our little company found a selling venue (thanks to our very, very good friend, and fellow store owner, Tami of Tami’s Treasures) that has the same friendly, down-home service we provide our customers. Thanks to their excellent customer service and tech support, we are able to concentrate on providing our customers with the excellent customer service they have come to expect from Lone Star Gemstones. Today our Main Street Mall interview is with Holly of Purse Diva Vintage and Purse Diva Couture.

Viviene: What attracted you to vintage clothing and when did this attraction start?

Holly: I'd have to say back in the 80s is when it started. I was, what was known then, a "quaker" or a "wavo" - mostly dressing in black but adding in shocking amounts of color here and there, Flock of Seagulls hair, the whole bit. I found this amazing priest's cloak from the 40s that I wore simply everywhere (which I still have, lol), and I went to Catholic school...lol! That started my vintage addiction. It really propelled into high gear a couple of years ago when I decided to part with a beloved vintage Gucci jacket.

Viviene: How does it feel to see your teenager wear things now that you wore back in the day?

Holly: Oh my, it is really shocking sometimes. Who would have thought my junior prom dress from 87' would be a major hit at the school 80s dance now...or when she wore my acid-washed denim jacket from the late 80s, completely decorated in colored pens, wow…Talk about strange to see your child in your items you loved so. It is pretty neat though.

Viviene: What's the difference in quality between vintage clothing and the off the rack items that most people wear?

Holly: My goodness, the difference is SO dramatic. I honestly had no idea until I started dealing in vintage the incredible difference. The style and particularly the craftmanship - it's just not there these days. I go shopping now and half the time am horrified at what I find…

Viviene: What is your favorite era for vintage clothing?

Holly: Oh dear...I can't pick one… I love items from each era. Dramatic 20s beaded flapper dresses, the flowing figure-friendly designs of the 30s, amazing 40s film noir type pieces, 50s rockabilly, 60s mod, 70s disco...I can't possibly choose… A lot of people do have a particularly favorite era, but I truly don't. I can appreciate and love pieces from all eras equally.

Viviene: Who is your favorite designer? Does it vary between purses, shoes, coats, pants, and dresses?

Holly: Hmm...wow, that's a hard question… For handbags I HAVE to say Chanel. Actually, Chanel tops the list for all, I would say. Manolo Blahnik is another fav of mine, as well as Dior. D & G, St. John, and Seven for All Mankind make fantastic jeans. Juicy Couture, I love them as well. Their handbags are darling and their jogging suits are the most comfortable on earth..

Viviene: What designer that is around now will be the "have to have" designer in years to come in the vintage business?

Holly: I have to say, you will never go wrong with the old "stand bys"...Chanel, Dior, Gucci - they've been around forever for a reason. Their pieces are classic and "wearable", and I think in the future they will still be going strong.

Viviene: How did your designer store come about?

Holly: While I love vintage, I must admit, I'm a label girl. Love love love designer items. I was simply sick to death of seeing so many fakes out there on the internet and wanted to make authentic, quality pieces available to the public. Just about every piece in the store comes out of my own closet, purchased at reputable retailers. When I come across something that's not personally mine, I go through extremely extensive research to determine if an item is authentic. I really can't stand fakes, and it makes me quite sad to see so many sellers either selling them as outright fakes or selling them as authentic and screwing around the buyers.

Viviene: Have you always enjoyed designer fashion?

Holly: Actually, no. LOL! Back in high school and my early 20s I didn't really appreciate designer items at all, I just got what I thought was "neat". It wasn't until I fell in love with a Dooney & Bourke handbag that I realized wow, designer really is sometimes better! You can't beat the quality of a handmade bag - or jeans that have been hand-finished. You really can't.

Viviene: What designer influences you the most in the clothing that you wear day to day?

Holly: I'd have to say Juicy Couture. I do a lot of computer/at my desk work and I need to be comfortable. Most days you will find me in a Juicy velour jogging suit. When I go out though, it's a different story. :-)

Interview with Allen, AB Cooks Corner!

Today our Main Street Malls interview is with Allen of AB Cooks Corner.

Viviene: Have you always been interested in the restaurant business and have you in the past owned any restaurants?

Allen: NO! When I got discharged from the Navy the country was in a recession and there were no jobs to be had. My Father wanted to open a Restaurant, so we became partners and opened NY style Deli. Later I opened a Delivery Sub Shop that did very well.

Viviene: How much of a difference does a quality cooking implement make in a chef's or everyday person's life?

Allen: In the Restaurant Business, your equipment is used a lot more than in your Home Kitchen. It is also used by employees who don't always take good care of it. So if you purchase ordinary implements from the Grocery store, you often have to replace them within days. A good utensil is constructed to take the day to day abuse in a Food Service environment and will last much longer. They also tend to be better designed making them easier and more comfortable to use.

Viviene: How do you select the vendors you purchase your items from?

Allen: My major vendors sell quality implements built for the Food Service Industry. I generally look for suppliers who carry sturdy, quality built merchandise that is not easily found. If I wouldn't use the product, I can't expect a buyer to be happy with it.

Viviene: Is there any item that is not available in cookware now that you would like to see in the near future?

Allen: Not that I can think of offhand, but new and better implements are introduced all the time. If I feel there is a market for the item, I will try to find a supplier so I can stock it.

Viviene: What is the best thing about being in business for yourself?

Allen: I think it's being the primary decision maker. I am a success or failure based on the decisions I make and not someone else’s. That keeps me learning and gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I succeed.

Viviene: You're a successful seller with an Ebay store? Why open up on Main Street?

Allen: eBay is actively trying to discourage listing in eBay Stores, they have reduced the visibility, raised fees tremendously and are actively discouraging the Store Inventory Format listings. Their current contest specifically excludes eBay Store listings. So I needed to diversify and start generating sales somewhere else. Main Street Malls Online offered a good price, Great Customer Service and a place to sell my goods with Marketing Support.

Viviene: What goals do you have for your business at Main Street in the future?

Allen: My main goal is to become successful enough, that I am not dependent on eBay for my livelihood. eBay has their own vision which is anti-business and to unstable to base a successful business. Main Street Malls gives me the freedom and stability to implement a long term strategy.

Hello! Finally, we've come up with a name, thanks to Viviene over at Born Too Late vintage. Thank you my dear!! Thank you thank you!! Ah, what an odyssey.

What IS Confessions of a Fashion Diva all about, you may ask.

Purse Diva LOVES fashion. LOVES it. A "passion for fashion", you might say. All eras, all types. We're going to feature special items from our stores (Purse Diva Vintage & Purse Diva Couture), as well as neat finds from other sellers we come across over at Main Street Vintage. Try to throw a little humor in there as well, and well...we do admit, we are a tad sarcastic, so bear with us. :-)

This week we made the front page of a very popular blog, She's a Betty. One of our 50s dresses was featured as being quite reminiscent of Jeffrey's finalé piece from Project Runway. VERY exciting for us! What was also so grand was that Main Street itself was mentioned, with a clickable link, and other sellers were also featured. We just love that.
